Superstar Mahesh Babu and director SS Rajamouli have arrived in Odisha to begin the next shooting schedule for their highly anticipated action-adventure film, SSMB29. The film, rumored to be a global action thriller, has already completed some portions in Hyderabad. Now, the team has moved to the scenic landscapes of Koraput, Jeypore, and Deomali for the next phase of filming.
Filming Begins in Odisha’s Breathtaking Locations
Rajamouli, known for his meticulous planning, has chosen Koraput’s lush green landscapes to resemble African terrains for a few crucial action sequences. The Odisha schedule is expected to last till the end of March 2025, with talkie and adventure scenes planned for Mahesh Babu and the supporting cast.
On March 5, Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran, rumored to be playing the antagonist, were seen arriving at the Odisha airport. Fans captured photos of them interacting with local police officials, and these images quickly went viral on social media. Meanwhile, Mahesh Babu’s wife, Namrata Shirodkar, was spotted seeing him off at Hyderabad airport earlier that day.
Priyanka Chopra’s Schedule Yet to Begin
While reports confirm that Priyanka Chopra is part of the film, she is not participating in the Odisha schedule. She previously joined the team in Hyderabad in February, and she is expected to be part of the next shooting phase. However, an official confirmation on her exact role and schedule is still awaited.
Rajamouli’s Unique Approach to Filming
Unlike his previous films, where he relied heavily on studio sets and VFX, Rajamouli is prioritizing real-world locations for SSMB29. Even in RRR, outdoor shooting was limited, but this time, the director has opted for authentic locations across India and Africa to enhance the film’s grand scale.
Rajamouli’s production house, Visvamithra Creations, has secured shooting permissions in Koraput from March 1 to March 28. Local authorities are actively supporting the film crew, recognizing the promotional value this project brings to Odisha.
Additionally, leaked images from the Hyderabad sets suggest that Rajamouli is also recreating Kashi (Varanasi) with a massive set. Though not officially confirmed, these reports indicate the film’s ambitious scale.

SSMB29 marks the first-ever collaboration between Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli, making it one of the most eagerly awaited films in Indian cinema.
