Anil Ravipudi’s clout of making ‘family entertainers’ is once again tested with Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, which barely makes you laugh in this no-brainer mix of cop drama that heavily relies on gag comedy on women.
Yadagiri Damodar Raju a.k.a Y D Raju (Venkatesh) was an encounter specialist who takes voluntary retirement as a illarikam alludu in Godavari lands of Andhra. The plot is simple, his ex-girlfriend, Meenakshi (Meenakshi Chowdary), returns to his life to ask for help: to save Akella (Srinivas Avasarala), an US billionaire kidnapped by the Pandey gang. The plot doesn’t have much relevant in the story as it was just used to create a forced gag comedy through placing Venkatesh in between of two obviously underwritten possessive women, Meenakshi and Bhagyam, Venkatesh’s wife (played by Aishwarya Rajesh).
If at all there is anything that is worth remembering is the role of Billi Raju, the son of Venkatesh. He nailed the performances with his dialogues. That is the only character that is worthy of any interesting merit in the movie. Remaining all the characters, including Marathi actor Upendra Limaye, Sai Kumar, Naresh, VT Ganesh are ignorable at the best as they did nothing better except be caricatured-beings in the gag-comedy of Anil Ravipudi.
The music composed by Bheems Ceciroleo is fairly decent, especially the Godari Gattu song sung by Ramana Gogula. The remaining songs and background score didn’t leave any significant mark. The cinematography by Sameer Reddy with his odd angles for the sake of it being a comedy movie doesn’t sit very well. The production designed by A S Prakash at the climax seems to have been done with bare minimum efforts.
Sankranthiki Vasthunnam is a barely passable movie for its very few moments that brings the too little laughter.
