Storyline

Kanakaraju (Varun Tej) is the leader of a traditional folk performance troupe in Penukonda, Rayalaseema. He falls in love with Chaitra (Ritika Nayak), a K-pop enthusiast working at the Kia plant. Just when their love story begins to take shape, Kanakaraju’s life takes a bizarre turn after he gets possessed by the spirit of a Korean man.

As the supernatural chaos unfolds, Kanakaraju, Chaitra, and his close friend Kisttappa set out to uncover the mystery behind the spirit and find a way to free him from its grip. The film combines romance, comedy, and horror while revealing the spirit’s emotional backstory.

Positives

The biggest strength of Korean Kanakaraju is its entertainment factor. Director Merlapaka Gandhi succeeds in delivering a clean family entertainer packed with comedy from start to finish without losing focus on the main storyline.

Varun Tej impresses in both shades of his character, bringing enough variation to make each avatar distinct. His transformation after the possession is convincing and entertaining.

Satya once again proves why he is among Tollywood’s finest comedians. His scenes with Varun Tej are hilarious and consistently produce laugh-out-loud moments throughout the film.

Ritika Nayak performs her role effectively, while supporting actors including Muralidhar Goud, Master Revanth, and the Korean cast add value to the narrative. The screenplay smartly balances comedy with the supernatural elements, ensuring the story never feels stagnant.

The climax lacks the same energy maintained throughout the film and feels rushed. The visual effects during the final portions are below expectations and reduce the overall impact. A few scenes featuring violence also feel slightly excessive for a film that largely targets family audiences.

Technicalities

Thaman S delivers a decent soundtrack, while his background score effectively enhances the horror and comedy portions. Manojh Reddy’s cinematography stands out, especially during the Korean-themed sequences, which are visually appealing.

Editor Satyaa maintains a crisp pace throughout the film. Director Merlapaka Gandhi deserves appreciation for reviving the horror-comedy genre with entertaining writing, witty one-liners, and several memorable comedy blocks that keep audiences engaged.
