Kota Srinivasa Rao turns a year older today. He was born on this day (July 10th) in 1947. The veteran actor, who is a recipient of the Padma Shri, deserves a rich tribute.

The young generation might not be aware of his stellar acting achievements, but there was a time when negative roles and character roles were enhanced purely by his screen presence. No matter what the dialogue writer wrote, his improvization would make even a lame line appear witty and wise.

He is a recipient of nine state Nandi Awards. From ‘Gaayam’ to ‘Pratighatana’, from ‘Ganesh’ to ‘Little Soldiers’, from ‘Aa Naluguru’ to ‘Pellaina Kothalo’, Kota has been feted with the state awards for them all.

When his career was looking dull in the 2000s, films like ‘Idiot’, ‘Athadu’, ‘Malliswari’, ‘Bommarillu’ and ‘Chatrapathi’ gave a boost.

In the late 2000s, as age took over, Kota preferred to do only meaty roles. ‘Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum’, in which he played the role of a veteran theatre artist, was a case in point.

His most recent public appearance was when he came out to cast his vote on May 13th. He looked infirm.

Telugu Funda wishes Kota a happy and healthy life ahead! We join his fans in wishing to see him in more and more memorable roles.
