Popular Telugu playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar was rushed to a hospital on Tuesday evening after being found unconscious at her residence in Hyderabad. Initial reports claimed she had attempted suicide. However, her daughter, Daya Prasad Prabhakar, has now dismissed these reports, stating that her mother accidentally took a slight overdose of prescribed medication for insomnia due to stress.
Daughter Denies Suicide Attempt Rumors
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Daya Prasad Prabhakar clarified that her mother had no personal issues and was doing well. She explained that Kalpana, who is currently pursuing both a PhD and an LLB, has been experiencing severe insomnia. To manage this condition, doctors prescribed medication. However, due to stress, she accidentally took a slightly higher dose than required.
“My mother is perfectly fine, happy, and healthy. She is a singer, an academic, and a strong woman. The rumors of a suicide attempt are completely false. Please do not manipulate or spread misinformation,” she stated. She further assured that her mother’s health is stable and she will be discharged soon.
What Happened to Kalpana?
On Tuesday around 5 PM, authorities at KPHB Police Station received an emergency call from Kalpana’s apartment committee, reporting that she was unresponsive. When police arrived, they found her door locked. Looking through the kitchen window, they saw her lying unconscious on her bed. Officers quickly entered and rushed her to a private hospital in Nizampet for treatment.
Doctors later confirmed that she had taken sleeping pills, but her condition is now stable and improving.
Earlier Reports Linked Incident to Family Dispute
Initial reports suggested that Kalpana’s hospitalization was linked to a disagreement with her daughter over education. It was claimed that Kalpana wanted her daughter to return to Hyderabad from Kerala, leading to an argument that allegedly caused her distress. However, Kalpana’s daughter has strongly refuted this claim, insisting that her mother’s medication overdose was accidental and unrelated to any personal conflicts.
