We are just a few days away from the release of Mufasa (2024), directed by critically-acclaimed director Barry Jenkins. Mufasa got its fame in India through the voice overs of Indian celebrities rather than the usual dubbing artists. In Telugu, celebrities like Brahmamnandam, Ali, Mahesh Babu are voicing the characters.

Let’s revisit the classic Disney movie that was released in 1994 and impacted the culture globally.

The Lion King was originally directed by the duo, Rob Minkoff and Roger Allers. It was a massive box office success collecting 771 Million USD worldwide and it was re-released multiple times, including IMAX. It is also the winner of an Oscar award for its Original Music composed by Hans Zimmer.

In 1994, Disney released The Lion King, an animated musical about the story of a young lion prince named Simba, whose lineage is to be the KIng African forests. The film begins with the birth of Simba, celebrated by all the animals in a grand ceremony led by Rafiki, the kingdom’s healer. However, Simba’s jealous and arrogant uncle Scar plots to take the throne for himself. He manipulates Simba into believing he is responsible for his father Mufasa’s death during a wildebeest stampede, leading Simba to flee into exile.

In the wilderness, Simba is befriended by Timon, and Pumbaa. They teach him to live by the motto ‘hakuna matata,’ a worry-less life. As he grows up away from his responsibilities, Scar rules the Pride Lands with tyranny, causing suffering among the animals. Eventually, Nala, Simba’s childhood friend, finds him and urges him to return home to confront Scar and reclaim his rightful place as king.

After some internal struggle and guidance from Rafiki and Mufasa’s spirit, Simba returns to challenge Scar. The climax involves a fierce confrontation where Scar reveals his treachery to Simba and the pride. Ultimately, Simba defeats Scar and restores balance to the Pride Lands, embracing his role in the circle of life as king.

Mufasa is going to hit the theatres this Friday, on 20th December.
