A stampede during the Pushpa 2: The Rule premiere in Hyderabad claimed the life of a woman and left her young son critically injured. The chaos unfolded on December 4 at Sandhya Theatre, RTC Crossroads, when actor Allu Arjun greeted fans.
Family Faces Tragedy at Pushpa 2 Premiere
The Pushpa 2 premiere began at 9:30 PM at Sandhya 70MM Theatre. Revathi, a 39-year-old resident of Dilsukhnagar, attended the event with her husband Bhaskar, her 9-year-old son Sri Teja, and her 7-year-old daughter Sanveeka. The family came to watch the film but experienced a devastating turn of events when fans surged forward after Allu Arjun’s arrival.
At 10:30 PM, Revathi and her family exited the theater. Fans rushed towards the gates to see Allu Arjun, causing a sudden crowd surge. The stampede knocked down Revathi and Sri Teja, leaving them unconscious.
Rescuers Provide Immediate Assistance
Police officers and bystanders performed CPR on Revathi and Sri Teja. They rushed both victims to Durga Bhai Deshmukh Hospital in Vidya Nagar. Doctors declared Revathi dead upon arrival. The medical team shifted Sri Teja, who remained in critical condition, to KIMS Hospital in Begumpet for specialized treatment. Authorities later transported Revathi’s body to Gandhi Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Eyewitnesses Describe the Chaos
Eyewitnesses said fans lost control when they heard about Allu Arjun’s arrival. Crowds stormed the venue, overwhelming the police. Officers attempted to disperse the fans with a mild lathi charge, but the stampede caused severe injuries.
Police sealed the theater gates and called for reinforcements to restore order. Investigators have started looking into the incident and advised the public to prioritize safety during large gatherings.
Celebration Turns into Heartbreak
The official release of Pushpa 2: The Rule on December 5 ended on a sorrowful note due to the tragedy. The incident, meant to be a moment of celebration, brought grief to the family and fans.
Police now focus on improving crowd management strategies to prevent similar incidents. They continue urging fans to act responsibly at public events.
