Social media was on July 14th divided over Nag Ashwin’s cryptic Instagram story against ‘Animal’. In the story, which he later deleted, the ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ maker said that this film amassed Rs 1000 Cr without infusing “gore, obscenity” in the film.
No prizes for guessing that Nag Ashwin’s target was ‘Animal’. The criticism came as a shocker, especially because ‘Animal’ director Sandeep Reddy Vanga is a self-confessed admirer of ‘Mahanati’, Ashwin’s previous directorial.
The Insta story led to a wave of trolling by the fans of the ‘Arjun Reddy’ director. Many of them said that ‘Kalki’ is not entirely original, for it borrows its dystopian and sci-fi elements from Hollywood movies. “Sandeep Vanga’s music sense is superior. ‘Kalki’ worked because of the Mahabharata aspect,” a fan of Vanga wrote.
On the night of July 10th, in a separate development, Prabhas released a video in which he thanked the audience and his fans for making ‘Kalki’ a “huge success”.
