Actor Manchu Vishnu, who is the President of the Movie Artists Association (MAA), has formally requested the Telangana government to establish a commission dedicated to improving the safety and representation of women in the Telugu film industry.
In a statement released on Thursday (September 5th), the ‘Kannappa’ actor expressed MAA’s commitment to creating a secure environment for all individuals involved in the industry, both on and off-screen. He emphasized the importance of addressing issues related to women’s safety and representation, and highlighted the association’s openness to suggestions from industry stakeholders.
The proposed commission would play a crucial role in identifying and addressing challenges faced by women in the Telugu film industry, and developing strategies to promote gender equality and inclusivity.
What propelled MAA’s request?
The request to the government comes in the wake of the debates sparked by the Hema Committee Report pertaining to the Malayalam film industry. Recently, actresses like Samantha Ruth Prabhu called for the commissioning of a similar Committee with respect to Tollywood.
