YouTubers and other observers of Tollywood (such as the media) are disappointed with the performance of some big-ticket commercial films in recent times. ‘Liger’, ‘Skanda’, ‘Mr. Bachchan’ and ‘Double Ismart’ are some of the disasters that have severely damaged the image of their directors. ‘Guntur Kaaram’, with its lame content, was also a flop.
In this regard, Trivikram has been clubbed with Puri Jagannadh in the list of Tollywood filmmakers who have lost their mojo. But that’s simply not true. Puri hasn’t been in form for more than ten years. In the said period, Trivikam delivered at least two movies worthy of repeat viewing: ‘Attarintiki Daredi’ and ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’. The second half of ‘Aravindha Sametha’ had superb content as well. Nithiin-Samantha’s ‘A Aa’ was a hit. ‘Agnyaathavaasi’ was terrible, though.
Trivikram can barely be put in the same basket as Puri. The latter is well on his way out if he doesn’t comprehensively alter his approach. With Trivikram, a few tweaks are enough. His executional abilities are intact. His sensibilities are not outdated.
