CIFF 2024: Sai Pallavi and Vijay Sethupathi Recognized for Outstanding Performances

The 22nd Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) came to a spectacular close on December 19, 2024, after a week of celebrating global cinema. This year, the festival showcased 123 films from 50 countries, offering an exciting experience for movie lovers. The grand finale included a special awards ceremony, where two stars, Sai Pallavi and Vijay Sethupathi, were honored for their incredible performances.

Sai Pallavi Shines with Best Actress Award

Sai Pallavi was awarded the Best Actress title for her powerful performance in Amaran. This win was especially meaningful to her, considering the tough competition from several excellent films released this year. In her acceptance speech, she thanked her fans, expressing deep gratitude for their support, which made this achievement possible. Sai Pallavi also credited the vision of director Rajkumar Periyasamy and the encouragement of the Amaran team. “This was possible only with the support of Mukund’s family and the team that brought this story to life,” she shared emotionally.

Vijay Sethupathi Wins Best Actor for Maharaja

Vijay Sethupathi won the Best Actor award for his role in Maharaja. He was full of appreciation for the audience, whose support made his success possible. Sethupathi’s acceptance was heartfelt as he thanked everyone who contributed to his journey in the film industry. His film Maharaja also received the Best Editor award, with Philomin Raj taking home the prize for his excellent work.

Amaran Dominates with Multiple Awards

Amaran was the biggest winner of the night, taking home several prestigious awards, including Best Film, Best Cinematographer (CH Sai), and Best Music Director. These awards highlighted the film’s strong creative direction and exceptional technical skills.

Other Notable Awards and Winners

In other categories, Arvind Swamy received the Favorite Actor award for Meiyazhagan, while Pari Elavazhagan and Pa Ranjith both won the Special Jury Award for Best Director for Jama and Thangaalan, respectively. The Best Entertainment Film award was given to Vettaiyan, and Nandhan won the Best Social Issue Film award.

The winners in the acting categories each received Rs. 50,000 as a part of their recognition. The 22nd CIFF celebrated the talent and hard work of all those involved in making these films, proving once again that Sai Pallavi and Vijay Sethupathi are among the brightest stars in Tamil cinema today.
