Notice director Shankar’s X post, which on Sunday garnered half a million impressions in no time. “Attention to all! As the copyright holder of Su. Venkatesan’s iconic Tamil novel ‘Veera Yuga Nayagan Vel Paari’, I am disturbed to see key scenes being ripped off and used without permission in many movies. Really upset to see a key scene from the novel in a recent movie trailer. Kindly refrain from using the scenes from the novel in movies, web series and any medium. Respect creators’ rights! Refrain from unauthorized adaptations of scenes. Refrain from infringement or face legal action!”
The tweet is unambiguous in terms of issuing a warning but doesn’t state which “recent movie trailer” Shankar is talking about. As per many movie buffs with knowledge of the Tamil novel, Shankar’s post pertains to ‘Devara’.
The Tamil novel referred to by the director of ‘Indian 2’ and ‘Game Changer’ has parallels with Jr NTR’s upcoming movie. Rescue missions, naval tactics (like ambushes), mythical creatures, among others, are the alleged similarities between the novel and ‘Devara’.
We have to wait for ‘Devara’ to arrive on September 27th for a more informed analysis. Until then, Shankar’s social media post will be in the realm of speculation.
