Hyderabad Task Force police have seized 1090kg of adulterated ginger-garlic paste from an illegal unit, arresting owner Mohammed Farooq amid a growing crackdown on food safety violations. The operation highlights ongoing concerns over unhygienic food production threatening public health in the city.
Unhygienic Manufacturing Exposed
Sleuths raided Shehzada Food Master, where Mohammed Farooq (50) was producing the paste in filthy conditions using harmful chemicals, synthetic colors, and gum powder to cut costs and boost volume. The paste, stored in unsanitary plastic containers, was repackaged for sale to local kirana stores, deceiving consumers with fake labels. This mirrors recent busts like the 1,915kg seizure at Jhansi Ginger Garlic Paste godown in Lalapet, where acetic acid and xanthan gum were added similarly.
Arrest and Seizure Details
Farooq was nabbed on the spot, with authorities confiscating the entire 1090kg stock along with mixing equipment, chemicals, and packaging materials worth lakhs. A case is filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for food adulteration, with lab tests pending to confirm toxins. The raid, based on credible tips, underscores Task Force efforts in Secunderabad and Khairtabad zones against such rackets.
Broader Food Safety Crisis
Hyderabad has seen multiple such incidents this year, including 4,000kg seized in Abids and 1,400kg elsewhere, pointing to a pattern of substandard units flouting FSSAI norms. Authorities warn of health risks like digestive issues from contaminants, urging consumers to check labels and buy from verified sources. Further probes into Shehzada Food Master’s supply chain are underway to prevent distribution.
