Sambarala Yeti Gattu’s Sankranti Risk: Can Sai Durgha Tej Pull It Off?

By TeluguFunda / August 18, 2026

Sai Durgha Tej’s much-awaited Sambarala Yeti Gattu is finally set to arrive in theatres, but the film’s long journey to the big screen has raised an important question: Can the Sankranti advantage make up for the repeated delays?

The film was initially planned for release on September 25, 2025. However, that date did not work out. The makers later announced that the film would hit theatres in December 2026, but the project has now been pushed further to January 12, 2027.

With this latest update, Sambarala Yeti Gattu has officially entered the Sankranti race. The festive season is undoubtedly one of the biggest advantages a Telugu film can get, thanks to long holidays, strong family audiences and increased theatrical footfalls. But after such a long wait, the film has more than just a release date to worry about.

The 2027 Sankranti race is already looking crowded. Mahakali is expected to release on January 8, while the Sharwanand–Sreenu Vaitla combination’s George Krish is targeting January 14. Nagarjuna could also announce a surprise Sankranti release, while Anil Ravipudi’s upcoming multistarrer featuring Venkatesh and Kalyan Ram is also eyeing the festive season.

Of course, the final lineup could change before January. Some films may move out of the race, but if several projects stick to their dates, the competition for screens and audiences will be intense.

For Sambarala Yeti Gattu, the biggest concern is the prolonged delay. The film’s glimpses and character posters were released quite some time ago, and repeated postponements can naturally affect audience curiosity. By the time the movie arrives, the makers will have to create a completely fresh buzz and ensure that audiences see it as an exciting new theatrical experience.

That makes the promotional campaign extremely important. The team will need to come up with fresh promotional content, strong updates and a strategy that can bring the film back into the spotlight. Simply relying on the Sankranti release window may not be enough.

The festive season can also provide the film with strong business potential. However, the makers need to be careful while setting theatrical targets and ticket prices. With multiple films competing for screens, a movie cannot afford to lose valuable ground because of an overly aggressive business strategy.

At the same time, Sambarala Yeti Gattu has several positives working in its favour. Sai Durgha Tej has undergone a significant transformation for the film, while the project also features a strong ensemble cast that includes Aishwarya Lekshmi, Jagapathi Babu, Srikanth and Sai Kumar.

If the content connects with the audience, the Sankranti holidays could give the film enough breathing space to grow through strong family and festive footfalls. A positive word of mouth could quickly turn the long delay into a distant memory.

Ultimately, Sambarala Yeti Gattu has a golden opportunity with its Sankranti release, but the pressure is equally high. The festive advantage can provide the platform, but the film’s content, promotions and business strategy will determine whether it can truly capitalise on the opportunity.

After such a long wait, the real challenge is simple: Sambarala Yeti Gattu must make audiences feel that it was worth waiting for.
