In a dramatic turn of events, the Telangana High Court has suspended the Government Order (GO) that approved special shows and increased ticket prices for Akhanda 2, just a day after the state government gave it the green signal.
The government had permitted a ticket price hike from December 12 to 14, allowing an additional ₹50 in single screens and ₹100 in multiplexes. The premiere show on December 11 had also been approved with a premium ticket rate of ₹600. However, a lunch motion petition filed by Advocate Srinivas Reddy challenged the GO, leading to its immediate suspension by the High Court.
This is the second such setback in recent months. Back in September, the High Court suspended a similar GO issued for They Call Him OG, with revisions made only after the first weekend. A comparable situation now seems likely for Akhanda 2, creating uncertainty for both the makers and distributors especially with most premiere shows already reporting houseful bookings.
Industry experts point out that these repeated, last-minute hurdles are causing confusion among audiences and disrupting release momentum. As the film fraternity and government continue to clash over pricing policies, many believe it’s time to establish a long-term, streamlined framework to prevent these issues from resurfacing.
A permanent resolution is crucial not only for smoother film releases but also for safeguarding the industry’s operational stability in the future.
