Ranveer Singh’s Durandhar is currently dominating the Indian box office, with its impressive collections reflecting strong audience approval. But amid the film’s roaring success, a heated debate has emerged over the continued use of India–Pakistan themes in big-scale spy thrillers. Adding unexpected fuel to the conversation, Hrithik Roshan’s recent Instagram story has now stirred controversy.
Hrithik shared a review praising Durandhar and wrote, “I love cinema, I love people who climb into a vortex and let the story take control, spin them, shake them until what they want to say is purged onto that screen. Dhurandhar is an example of that. Loved the storytelling. It’s cinema.”
However, what grabbed attention was the line that followed. Hrithik added, “I may disagree with the politics of it, and argue about the responsibilities us filmmakers should bear as citizens of the world. Nevertheless, can’t ignore how much I loved and learned from this one as a student of cinema.”
His remark about “disagreeing with the politics” has triggered mixed reactions. Some believe Hrithik subtly hinted that the film leans toward propaganda an accusation already circulating among certain critics.
On the other hand, those opposing Hrithik’s view argue that India has long suffered from terror attacks orchestrated by Pakistani groups, and portraying such realities on screen should not be labelled political but factual.
Hrithik’s comments have now ignited widespread discussion in Bollywood circles. Many are keenly watching to see whether other major stars will step forward to voice their opinions on the controversy.
