Karthi’s much-awaited film Annagaru Vostaru is gearing up for a grand worldwide release this Friday. Directed by Nalan Kumaraswamy and produced by K.E. Gnanavel Raja under the prestigious Studio Green banner, the film is positioned as a fresh, new-age action-comedy entertainer. Krithi Shetty stars as the female lead.

In a recent interview, Karthi opened up about what drew him to the project and shared intriguing details about the film’s unique universe.

“The reason I immediately said yes to Annagaru Vostaru is Nalan Kumaraswamy,” Karthi said. “His Soodhu Kavvum has a cult following. We usually think of superheroes as Batman or Superman, but in our culture, legends like NTR and MGR were the real superheroes they changed both cinema and politics. Inspired by that, Nalan crafted a story that reimagines the 80s mass-commercial madness in a refreshing way. The film is set in a fictional world.”

Karthi further explained that the film’s distinctiveness comes from the creative freedom embraced by its makers. “New kinds of cinema emerge only when writers are given complete freedom. Otherwise, we keep recycling the same formulas. Nalan has mounted this film with visuals and music on a scale comparable to something like Avengers. It’s not a period film. As the trailer suggests, this is a superhero story set in a parallel world.”

In Annagaru Vostaru, Karthi plays a police officer who sports a classic safari suit quite different from the intense cop roles he’s portrayed in the past. He also praised Krithi Shetty’s performance, revealing that she plays a “spirit reader” in the film, adding another layer of intrigue.

With its inventive setting, high-octane presentation, and unconventional characters, Annagaru Vostaru promises a vibrant cinematic experience for audiences this weekend.
