Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra passed away today at the age of 89, marking the end of an era for Indian cinema. Earlier in the day, reports about his demise surfaced on social media, which the family initially denied. However, the news was later confirmed by prominent film personalities, including filmmaker Karan Johar.
Sharing his grief, Karan Johar wrote,
“Today there is a gaping hole in our industry… a space that can never be filled by anyone… there will always be the one and only DHARAMJI. We love you, kind sir. We will miss you so much. The heavens are blessed today. It will always be my blessing to have worked with you…”
Dharmendra had been unwell for several days and was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai. He was discharged recently and continued treatment at home before his demise.
With a prolific career spanning over six decades, Dharmendra delivered some of Hindi cinema’s most memorable performances. His iconic films include Sholay, Dharam Veer, Seeta Aur Geeta, Chupke Chupke, Ghazab, Ankhen, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, among many others. Known for his versatility, charm, and powerful screen presence, he earned immense love from audiences across generations.
Dharmendra is survived by his wives Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini, and his six children, including acclaimed actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.
The film fraternity and fans nationwide are mourning the loss of a true legend whose contributions to Indian cinema will remain unforgettable.
