Why Immadi Ravi Became “iBomma Ravi”: Police Probe Uncovers Key Reasons

There is no doubt about his intelligence or technical skill on that, the police have absolute clarity. But the question remains: why did someone so capable choose the wrong path? How did an ordinary IT employee end up becoming the mastermind behind iBomma? What pushed him to transform into “iBomma Ravi”?

To find these answers, Hyderabad City Police conducted a detailed analysis of iBomma operator Immadi Ravi’s mindset. During the investigation, several revelations came to light.

One of the most significant findings was that Ravi had faced humiliation and financial struggles right from his college days and even after marriage. These repeated insults and pressures eventually changed him. With earning money becoming his primary goal, he completely stopped caring whether his path was legal or not.

According to Ravi’s father, Ravi married a woman he loved in 2016, instead of accepting the alliance chosen by his family. She came from an affluent background, which led to differences between the couple. Mental friction developed, and amid these disturbances, Ravi used his experience as a web designer to create the iBomma and Bappam TV websites. He gradually slipped into illegal activities, driven by the desire to earn big money.

Within a few months, betting app operators began offering him advertisements, resulting in unexpected profits. Soon, Ravi moved his operations to the Netherlands. No matter where he stayed, he ensured he could run the websites remotely.

Through these platforms, he collected data from nearly 50 lakh users and sold it to cybercriminals and gaming syndicates, earning almost ₹20 crore. With this money, he purchased a flat in Kukatpally and began planning to settle abroad permanently. It was during this phase that he eventually fell into police custody.

Police say Ravi’s biggest mistake was challenging the authorities. Even Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sajjanar pointed this out in a media briefing:
“Any criminal who challenges the police saying ‘catch me if you can’ will end up behind bars.”

He also warned that cyber fraud and financial crimes harming common people cannot go unpunished. More importantly, Sajjanar reminded the public not to forget the dark side behind the so-called “free movie watching” provided by piracy platforms.

His message is something everyone must reflect upon.
