Ram Charan’s upcoming film Peddi is gearing up for a grand musical promotion, and the buzz has already begun with the reveal of its first single titled “Chikiri.” The track’s catchy hook line and unique vibe are expected to set the tone for the film’s album. Adding to the excitement, music legend A.R. Rahman himself will be seen in the promotional video for the song.
What’s more interesting is Rahman’s special choice for the singer Mohit Chauhan, the voice that once defined a generation of Hindi music lovers. Mohit became a household name after the musical blockbuster Rockstar, where Rahman composed 15 songs, and nine of them featured Mohit’s soulful vocals. That album remains one of the most iconic soundtracks in Rahman’s career.
Despite his immense popularity in Hindi, Mohit Chauhan hasn’t sung many songs in Telugu cinema. His distinctive tone and texture stand out, but Telugu composers rarely collaborated with him. One notable exception was when director Nag Ashwin roped him in for the soulful track “Ide Ra” from Yevade Subrahmanyam, purely out of admiration for his voice.
Apart from a few dubbed films where his songs appeared in Telugu, Mohit hasn’t had major original tracks in the language until now. With Peddi, Rahman has brought him back, this time for a high-profile Telugu project.
Music lovers are already eager to hear Mohit Chauhan’s voice blend with Rahman’s magical composition. One thing is certain the “Chikiri” song is set to bring a new wave of freshness and emotion to Telugu music.
