Arundhati Hindi Remake on the Cards: Sreeleela in Talks for the Lead

One of South India’s most celebrated supernatural thrillers, Arundhati (2009), is reportedly set for a grand Hindi remake and rising star Sreeleela is being considered to play the titular role that originally made Anushka Shetty a pan-India sensation.

According to early reports, the Hindi adaptation will be backed by Geetha Arts, one of India’s leading production houses known for their big-scale entertainers. The project will be directed by Mohan Raja, best known for his acclaimed work on Thani Oruvan and Velaikkaran.

A Classic Reimagined

The original Arundhati, directed by Kodi Ramakrishna and produced by M. Shyam Prasad Reddy, became a cult hit in Telugu cinema for its powerful female protagonist, grand visuals, and spine-chilling narrative. The film combined supernatural elements, historical drama, and emotional intensity — setting a new benchmark for fantasy-horror storytelling in Indian cinema.

Now, more than a decade later, the Hindi remake aims to bring that same mythic grandeur to a wider audience, with a fresh cast, upgraded visual effects, and a modern cinematic approach.

Sreeleela in the Spotlight

If finalized, this role could mark a career-defining moment for Sreeleela, who has quickly risen as one of the most promising young actresses in South Indian cinema. Known for her strong screen presence and expressive performances, she’s seen as a fitting choice to take on the emotionally and physically demanding character of Arundhati.

Sources suggest that Mohan Raja is keen on reinterpreting the lead character as a more contemporary, yet spiritually rooted woman, giving the story a balance between tradition and modern sensibilities.

Big Vision, Bigger Expectations

With Geetha Arts backing the project, expectations are already sky-high. The studio is said to be planning a pan-India theatrical release, aiming to recreate the magic that made Arundhati a timeless favorite.
