A horrific accident in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district has left the entire state in shock. A V. Kaveri Travels bus traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru caught fire in the early hours of Friday, leading to a massive tragedy that claimed several lives.
How the Tragedy Unfolded
According to reports, the incident occurred when a two-wheeler collided with the bus near the outskirts of Kurnool city. The bike reportedly went under the bus and hit the fuel tank, triggering a sudden explosion and fire that engulfed the entire vehicle within minutes.
At the time of the accident, the bus was carrying 41 passengers, including 39 adults and two children. Several passengers were trapped inside and burnt alive before they could escape the flames.
Eyewitness Accounts Paint a Horrific Picture
Eyewitness Haima Reddy, who was traveling from Puttaparthi to Hyderabad, shared a chilling account. She said they noticed a traffic jam and saw the bus burning on the roadside.
“We went closer and saw charred bodies and skeletal remains scattered inside the bus. It was unbearable to witness,” she said. Reddy immediately alerted the Kurnool SP about the situation.
Another survivor, Aakash, who was on the bus, recalled the terrifying moments.
“There was a loud noise, and suddenly, flames erupted inside the bus. I broke a window and jumped out to save myself,” he said, adding that most passengers were asleep when the fire broke out.
Officials Respond
DIG Koya Praveen confirmed that out of the 41 passengers, 19 people survived and are currently receiving treatment in a nearby hospital. He stated that the bus was completely engulfed in flames before most passengers could react, as many were asleep at the time.
The DIG also clarified that the diesel tank of the bus remained intact and that the fire was caused by the bike collision, not a fuel tank explosion. The main driver of the bus is currently missing, while the assistant driver has been taken into custody for questioning.
Meanwhile, District Collector Siri reported that 11 bodies have been recovered so far from the wreckage, with rescue operations still underway.
A Scene of Unimaginable Horror
Officials and eyewitnesses describe the aftermath as one of the worst fire accidents in recent times. The charred skeletons and remains found inside the bus have shocked both locals and authorities, prompting calls for a detailed investigation into the safety standards of long-distance private buses.
As rescue teams continue their work, families of the victims await identification and justice in what stands as one of the most tragic accidents to hit the region in recent memory.
