Lakshmi Manchu Slams Reporter Over Dress Question, Calls Out Industry Double Standards

By TeluguFunda / September 17, 2025

Actor Lakshmi Manchu fiercely reacted to a journalist’s question about her clothing choices, calling it sexist and ageist. The actress, who promotes her upcoming thriller Daksha: A Deadly Conspiracy, expressed her anger during a recent conversation with Great Andhra. The journalist asked her if her style of dressing had changed at the age of 47 and after moving to Mumbai.

Lakshmi did not hold back. She immediately questioned the journalist’s approach and highlighted the double standards women face in the film industry. “Would you ask a man the same question? How dare you! How dare you ask me that?” she shot back. She gave an example and asked, “Would you say, Mahesh Babu, you are 50 now, why are you going shirtless? Then how do you ask a woman the same thing?”

Lakshmi Manchu Calls For Respectful Journalism

Lakshmi urged journalists to frame their questions responsibly and warned that such remarks discourage women from expressing themselves freely. She explained that these questions try to limit women and their choices.

She highlighted the struggles women face in cinema compared to men. “I know a superstar’s wife who still works in the industry. After her divorce, producers took away the films she was once offered because they felt her ex-husband might feel bad. She still waits to do good work,” Lakshmi said. She stressed that men rarely face such situations and that their careers stay unaffected despite personal issues.

A Stand Against Sexism

Lakshmi reminded everyone that women must fight for their freedom. “A man will never face something like that; his life will never change. But a woman takes on so much responsibility. No one gives us freedom; we have to take it on our own,” she said.

Her fiery response went viral, and fans praised her for boldly calling out sexism, age-shaming, and double standards in the entertainment industry.

Daksha Set For Release

Lakshmi Manchu now gears up for the release of Daksha: A Deadly Conspiracy, which hits theatres on September 19, 2025. Director Vamsee Krishna Malla leads the project, and the cast includes Mohan Babu, Samuthrakani, Viswant, Chitra Shukla, and Siddique.
