Popular Kannada actor Raj B Shetty has officially joined director Gurudatha Ganiga’s upcoming film Karavali in a powerful role named Maveera. This update follows Raj’s recent success with Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye and Toby. The film, set against the coastal landscapes of Karnataka, features Prajwal Devaraj in the lead and delivers an intense drama rooted deeply in local traditions.
Raj B Shetty’s Striking First Look as Maveera
The makers recently unveiled a bold poster introducing Raj as Maveera. In it, he stands between two buffaloes, holding a whip, with a fierce and determined expression. This imagery instantly reminds fans of Kambala, the traditional buffalo racing sport of coastal Karnataka. Director Gurudatha Ganiga explained that Maveera represents a character strongly tied to the land and its culture. When the team began writing the script, they didn’t know who would fit the role. They tested several actors but couldn’t find the right match.
How Raj Came on Board
Ganiga met Raj B Shetty multiple times while Raj worked on other projects like Su from So. After five meetings, Raj finally agreed to consider the role. The turning point came when Ganiga showed him some raw footage from the film. Impressed by its authenticity, Raj immediately accepted the offer. According to the director, Raj didn’t just act—he became Maveera.
Themes and Storyline of Karavali
The team shot Karavali extensively across coastal Karnataka, exploring themes of survival, loyalty, and the deep bond between humans and animals. The tagline, “Animal vs Human,” hints at emotional conflicts and traditional values at the heart of the story. The second poster, titled “Arrival of Maveera,” shows Raj holding a torch, his body covered in mud, adding mystery to the character. Viewers now wonder whether Maveera races in Kambala or fiercely protects age-old customs.
Strong Supporting Cast and Crew
Alongside Raj B Shetty and Prajwal Devaraj, the cast features Mitra in a significant role, Ramesh Indira in an intense part, and Sampada as the female lead. Sachin Basrur composes the music, while Abhimanyu Sadanandan handles cinematography. VK Film Association and Ganiga Films produce the movie, with dubbing and edits nearly complete.
The team plans to release Karavali later this year, and Raj B Shetty’s Maveera already stands out as one of its most anticipated highlights.
