19 Cuts in Kuberaa: Sekhar Kammula Surprises Fans with a Bold New Direction

By TeluguFunda / June 19, 2025

Popular Telugu director Sekhar Kammula, known for his soft, emotional dramas, now grabs headlines with his bold new film, Kuberaa. The biggest surprise? The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) demanded 19 cuts in the movie before its release. This unexpected move has stirred massive curiosity among fans and critics, prompting questions about the bold elements Kammula has explored this time.

Kuberaa originally ran for 195 minutes, but the CBFC cuts reduced its length to 181 minutes in Telugu and 182 minutes in Tamil. The board trimmed about 13 minutes and 41 seconds of footage. These cuts involve crucial scenes featuring the lead cast, Dhanush, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Rashmika Mandanna, and Jim Sarbh. One of the removed scenes shows a tense cab ride involving Dhanush, Rashmika, and Nagarjuna, possibly marking a key turning point in the story.

Kuberaa Breaks Sekhar Kammula’s Comfort Zone

Sekhar Kammula usually delivers emotional stories rooted in strong morals. But with Kuberaa, he steps into unfamiliar territory. The trailer and the nature of the cuts reveal that the film explores greed, power, and ethical conflict, themes Kammula rarely tackles. He clearly makes a bold move away from his typical narrative style.

Dhanush and Nagarjuna Lead a Bold, Gritty Story

In Kuberaa, Dhanush portrays a poor man who dreams of becoming rich. Meanwhile, Nagarjuna grabs attention with his striking dialogue: “Only money and power matter in this country, not ethics or justice.” This line alone hints at a multi-layered storyline. Rashmika Mandanna takes on a supportive yet meaningful role, and Jim Sarbh adds intensity to the central conflict.

The production team simultaneously shot the film in Telugu and Tamil and also plans to release it in Hindi for a pan-India audience. Suniel Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao produced the film, while Sonali Narang presented it. Devi Sri Prasad composed the music, adding emotional depth and dramatic highs to the film.

Audiences Eagerly Await Kuberaa’s June 20 Premiere

Kuberaa will hit theatres worldwide on June 20, 2025, and fans can’t wait. The trailer already impressed viewers with its striking visuals and hard-hitting dialogue. The 19 cuts from CBFC have only increased public curiosity about what the film truly reveals.

Sekhar Kammula doesn’t just bring another movie to the screen, he delivers what looks like his boldest and most unconventional film yet. With standout performances, gripping writing, and an emotional core, Kuberaa might become one of 2025’s biggest cinematic highlights.
