The wait is over! Yash Raj Films (YRF) has officially announced the release date for War 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War. The film, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, will hit theaters worldwide on August 14, 2025, just in time for India’s Independence Day celebrations.
Hrithik Roshan’s Injury Won’t Delay War 2
There had been speculation that the film might be postponed due to Hrithik Roshan’s recent knee injury, which he sustained during rehearsals for a dance sequence. However, YRF has put all rumors to rest, confirming that the film remains on track. Hrithik’s injury occurred while practicing an intense dance number with Jr NTR, adding to the excitement surrounding the film. Doctors have advised him to rest, and the shoot for this sequence has now been scheduled for May 2025.
Despite his injury, Hrithik was recently seen attending the funeral of veteran actor Deb Mukherjee, the father of War 2 director Ayan Mukerji. The actor was spotted walking with the help of elbow crutches. Actress Kiara Advani, who is expecting her first child, was also present at the last rites.
YRF’s Spy Universe Expands with War 2
War 2 is the sixth film in Yash Raj Films’ expanding Spy Universe. This cinematic universe began with Ek Tha Tiger in 2012, followed by its sequel Tiger Zinda Hai in 2017. The franchise continued with War in 2019, introducing a new set of characters and high-octane action. In 2023, Pathaan added another chapter to the universe, bringing together major espionage figures.
Later that year, Tiger 3 further expanded the storyline, strengthening the interconnected narratives. Now, with War 2, the Spy Universe is set to reach new heights, promising more thrilling action and intrigue.
