Legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja has reached another milestone in his illustrious career by unveiling his first-ever Western classical symphony, “Valiant,” at London’s Eventim Apollo Theatre on March 9 at midnight. This historic event was made even more special by the participation of the renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, which performed alongside the maestro in what he described as a “special surprise performance.”

A Historic Achievement in Western Classical Music

The 81-year-old composer recorded “Valiant” with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and recently shared a behind-the-scenes video of its making. In the video, he introduced himself to the orchestra and spoke about his deep connection with music. He revealed that he was used to composing a song or a film score every day and that writing a symphony in this genre was a sudden decision.

Since the announcement of “Valiant,” Ilaiyaraaja has received widespread praise. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin described the symphony as the “crown jewel” among his many achievements. Fans also flooded social media with appreciation, calling him a “musical genius” and an “unforgettable legend.” One fan wrote, “The first Indian to compose a symphony… Maestro Ilaiyaraaja!” Another commented, “Incredible! What a night to remember.”

A Legacy of Musical Excellence

In addition to presenting “Valiant,” Ilaiyaraaja also performed an orchestral version of his iconic film compositions at the event, giving fans a nostalgic experience. His contribution to Indian music includes legendary albums like “How to Name It” and “Nothing But Wind.”

His son, Yuvan Shankar Raja, took to social media to express his pride. In a heartfelt message, he wrote:
