Director Harish Shankar about ‘Mr. Bachchan’

‘Mr. Bachchan’ stars Ravi Teja as an Income Tax officer who locks horns with a black-money hoarder (played by Jagapathi Babu). The film, starring Bhagyashri Borse as the heroine, is a remake of ‘Raid’ (Hindi).

Highlights from the interview:

The audience expect entertainers like ‘Dhamaka’ from Ravi Teja garu. When he strayed from the formula and did movies like ‘Naa Autograph’, ‘Neninthe’ and ‘Shambo Shiva Shambo’, the audience rejected them. ‘Mr. Bachchan’ does fan service. Everything about the movie – the songs, the comedy, the action – will be worth it. I hope the audience watch it more than once.

While I love doing remakes as adaptations, I have also helmed original movies. One of the movies I regret missing was ‘Special 26’. Coming to ‘Mr. Bachchan’, it is an adaptation of ‘Raid’ (2018). There, the hero and his heroine were married. In my film, they are younger and unmarried.

‘Mr. Bachchan’ features chartbusters. Mickey J Meyer dished out four songs in a span of seven days. The output is dashing. He is an underrated composer. The songs in all my movies have been loved by the audience. I am a music lover.

I am a lover of literature. I am also a fan of rare aesthetics. My first movie, ‘Shock’, flopped despite my attempts at showcasing originality. After that flop, I changed my style and made ‘Mirapakay’.
