Sodara Review: A Heartfelt Sibling Entertainer

By TeluguFunda / April 25, 2025

Sodara is produced by Cans Entertainment. The film hits the screens this Friday (April 25th). Telugu Funda brings you the movie’s first review in the town!

Telugu Funda’s reveal of the Premise:

Sampurnesh Babu and Sanjosh play brothers who have had a blow hot, blow cold relationship. The elder brother has been desperate to get married; and having been rejected by 99 girls, he is frustrated and restless. The lives of the two siblings turn upside down after they fall in love with Divi and Bhuvi, their neighbour and college classmate, respectively. Which incident triggers a plethora of problems in their love lives? How do they tackle the personal crisis? Will fate allow them to have their way?

Telugu Funda’s take on the Performances:

  1. Sampurnesh Babu: The Kobbari Matta plays a well-written character. While his desperation for marriage may come across as caricaturish, he doesn’t allow his character to be reduced to an excuse for comedy. His character turns emotional here and there, something that was not the case in most of his previous comedies.
  2. Sanjosh: The actor has got the spark. He is interesting to watch in a role that demands him to romance his sweetheart, fight with his elder brother, and pick up arguments with all and sundry.
  3. The ladies: The two heroines, Arthi and Prachi Bansal, are good enough.
  4. Others: Getup Srinu is fun to watch as Sanjosh’s college buddy. Babu Mohan makes a comeback in the role of a father. Baba Baskhar is seen as a drunkard.

Telugu Funda’s taken on the Technical Output:

Sunil Kashyap‘s songs enliven the mood. The soundscape has the quality of suiting a medium-range romantic family entertainer. The song during the opening credits should have been replaced by a song on Sampurnesh Babu’s soda-making prowess. It would have been entertaining. The cinematography by Jaan is average. Since the film is entirely set in a small village, the production values are in keeping with the humble backdrop.

Analysis:

The entire story revolves around the two brothers, with their emotional, doting parents anchoring some key scenes. Sampurnesh Babu’s character is the quintessential child-like person once his life ambition of getting married comes close to fruition. He is so blinded by his desperation to tie the knot that he switches from one love interest to another in a snap. Like the evergreen, caring husband stock character from the small town, he buys creature comforts for his future wife. All this is narrated without much fuss. His family members have typical human frailties: the younger brother has his self-interest in mind; his mother typically sees honour in extracting the maximum dowry, but she is not unrelenting.

The fun quotient of the first half gives way to the dicey situations faced by the two brothers in the second half. One of the brothers is torn apart by the need to follow his heart and the compulsion to tackle his sibling’s emotional investment in a relationship. The climax, expectedly, involves both of them in an intense way.

Getup Srinu’s character delivers the required laughs amid a serious screenplay. Sampurnesh Babu enjoys playing the age-bar ‘pelli koduku’. Sanjosh takes it upon himself to deliver some college campus entertainment.

The actual story takes off around the interval. The love track between Sampurnesh’s character and his neighbour should have involved a couple of impactful moments.

Telugu Funda’s Verdict:

Sodharaa offers a watchable experience, particularly for those who enjoy family dramas with a touch of romance and comedy. While the narrative takes its time to truly engage, the performances, especially by Sampurnesh Babu and Sanjosh, inject life and emotion into the film.

Rating: 2.75
