Jana Sena’s 12th Formation Day: Pawan Kalyan’s Epic Comeback

By TeluguFunda / March 14, 2026

Jana Sena Party celebrates its Formation Day every year on March 14, marking the birth of a political movement that set out to redefine people-centric politics in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Founded by actor turned-leader Pawan Kalyan on 14 March 2014 at a massive public meeting in Hyderabad, the party emerged with the slogan of questioning those in power and giving a voice to common citizens. Over the years, this day has grown from a symbolic anniversary into a powerful political event that showcases the party’s journey, ideology and future roadmap.

Origins of Jana Sena

The Jana Sena Party was officially launched at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre in Madhapur, Hyderabad, amid huge expectations from fans and politically conscious youth. Pawan Kalyan, already a popular film star, announced that his entry into politics was not for power or positions but to fight injustice and bring accountability into public life. At the launch, he unveiled the party flag and core objectives, calling upon people to become a “people’s army” that would question corruption, misgovernance, and policies that hurt the weaker sections. This emotional and intense speech set the tone for Jana Sena’s political culture: aggressive questioning, transparency, and a strong emphasis on social responsibility.

In its early days, Jana Sena did not contest elections immediately but chose to support the TDP–BJP alliance in the 2014 polls, positioning itself as a force that would stand by what it believed was right for the state rather than chase numbers at any cost. This cautious yet idealistic beginning differentiated the party from traditional formations that prioritized electoral gains from day one.

Growth, Struggles and Breakthrough

The years that followed were not easy for Jana Sena. In the 2019 elections, the party’s performance was modest and it faced criticism, both from rivals and some supporters, about strategy and organization. However, it continued to build cadre strength, raise issues like the Uddanam kidney disease crisis, and position itself as a voice of the neglected. The focus on ground-level problems and social issues slowly expanded its base beyond fan circles into serious political support.

The real turning point came in the 2024 elections when Jana Sena, contesting as part of the NDA alliance along with the TDP, registered a stunning 100 per cent strike rate, winning every Assembly and Lok Sabha seat it contested. From being written off after 2019, the party transformed into a kingmaker and then into a ruling partner, with Pawan Kalyan taking oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. This cinematic comeback from near-zero representation to a crucial role in government is often cited as one of the most remarkable revival stories in recent Indian politics.
