Renowned cinematographer Rathnavelu, known for delivering visually stunning films over the last two decades, is now preparing to step into direction. The ace cinematographer, who worked on blockbuster movies like Arya, Enthiran, Rangasthalam and Devara, recently wrapped up work on Peddi starring Ram Charan.

Speaking about his future plans, Rathnavelu revealed that directing a film has always been one of his biggest ambitions. He shared that he has already prepared three story ideas and hopes to make an action thriller packed with strong emotional elements.

According to him, the biggest challenge is finding enough time away from his busy cinematography schedule to fully focus on script development. He expressed confidence that his directorial debut could happen soon.

Rathnavelu also opened up about an interesting creative decision taken during the making of Peddi. He revealed that a few important portions, especially the Delhi sequence, were shot using traditional film negatives instead of digital cameras.

He explained that the scenes were filmed without artificial lighting, allowing the visuals to appear more natural and realistic. Rathnavelu added that after nearly 17 years, he finally got the opportunity to work with film negatives once again. While digital cameras offer excellent quality today, he felt film negatives provided a raw and authentic texture that perfectly suited the film’s narrative.
