Storyline:
Komal (Vishwak Sen) is a passionate filmmaker directing a movie titled Funky. As the budget keeps escalating, the producer (Naresh Vijayakrishna) suffers health issues, prompting his daughter Chitra (Kayadu Lohar) to step in and take control. She decides to replace Komal to complete the remaining shoot. What follows is a chaotic battle of egos, creative differences, and unexpected twists as Komal tries to reclaim his position and prove his worth.
Positives:
Vishwak Sen steps away from his usual mass image and impresses with his comic timing. His quirky one-liners bring occasional laughs.
Kayadu Lohar looks charming on screen and shares decent chemistry with Vishwak Sen.
A few jokes in both halves manage to land well.
The short runtime works in the film’s favor to some extent.
Colorful visuals and pleasant cinematography add vibrancy.
Negatives:
The film lacks a coherent storyline and proper narrative flow.
Scenes feel random and disconnected, making it hard to stay engaged.
Overreliance on one-liners instead of well-structured comedy blocks weakens the impact.
Emotional moments towards the end fail to create any real impact.
Songs are underwhelming, and dubbing feels off in several scenes.
The Sampath Raj track appears unnecessary and adds little value.
Technicalities:
Bheems Ceciroleo’s music is average, with songs that fail to leave a mark.
Suresh Sarangam’s cinematography is colorful and visually pleasing.
Production values are decent.
Editing feels choppy, though the randomness of scenes contributes to this issue.
Director Anudeep KV focuses heavily on punchy one-liners but neglects story and screenplay structure.
Rating: 2.5/5
Final Verdict:
Funky is a below-par comedy drama that banks heavily on quirky humor but lacks a solid script to support it. While Vishwak Sen and Kayadu Lohar deliver sincere performances and a few jokes work, the film ultimately feels like a collection of scattered scenes rather than a cohesive entertainer. A disappointing outing that could have been much better with stronger writing.
