Jagapathi Babu : Appalasuri Is the Finest Role in My Career

Veteran actor Jagapathi Babu has described his role in the upcoming film Peddi as the most memorable character of his acting journey so far. Ahead of the film’s June 4 release, the actor spoke about the emotional depth of Appalasuri, the challenging dubbing process, and his experience working with director Buchi Babu Sana and actor Ram Charan.

Jagapathi Babu said he immediately sensed the uniqueness of the role after seeing himself in Appalasuri’s makeover. He credited director Buchi Babu Sana and National Award-winning makeup artist Rashid for creating the character’s striking appearance.

The actor stated that among all the roles he has played after Legend, Appalasuri holds a special place. According to him, the character gave him a rare opportunity to showcase intense emotion, powerful performance, and a distinctive screen presence. Sharing screen space with Ram Charan in such a significant role made the experience even more rewarding.

Explaining the emotional core of the character, Jagapathi Babu clarified that Appalasuri is not portrayed as a father figure. Instead, he is a man driven by deep love and emotional attachment. He hinted that the bond between Appalasuri and Ram Charan’s character would become one of the major highlights of the film.

Jagapathi Babu also revealed that dubbing for Peddi turned out to be one of the most difficult tasks of his career. While Aravinda Sametha had previously been his toughest dubbing experience, he said Appalasuri demanded even more dedication because of the dialect and emotional intensity involved. At times, he spent several hours recording just a few lines to achieve perfection.

Praising Buchi Babu Sana’s filmmaking approach, the actor compared him to director Sukumar, saying both filmmakers have exceptional clarity in their vision. He added that directors with such clarity help actors deliver their best performances naturally.

Speaking about Ram Charan, Jagapathi Babu appreciated the actor’s commitment and hard work on the film. Recalling their reunion after Rangasthalam, he revealed that Ram Charan performed all the stunts himself without relying on body doubles, despite suffering injuries during the shoot. He also noted that Ram Charan has continued to grow as an actor with every project.
