Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has started preparations for the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu nearly a year in advance. Instead of conducting routine review meetings from offices, Pawan personally toured pollution-hit stretches of the Godavari River through a boat inspection between Pushkar Ghat and Kotilingala Ghat in Rajamahendravaram.
The Deputy CM’s visit highlighted his strong focus on making the next Pushkaralu a clean and eco-friendly spiritual gathering. During the inspection, he closely observed sewage discharge points and areas where wastewater is directly entering the river. Officials were questioned in detail about current pollution-control systems and treatment processes.
Pawan instructed authorities to carry out a full-scale assessment of all pollution sources affecting the Godavari. He emphasized that officials must move beyond paperwork and create practical, result-oriented solutions to protect the river before the mega spiritual event begins.
One of the major concerns raised during the review was the huge amount of untreated sewage flowing into the Godavari every day. Pawan stressed the need for scientific waste-treatment methods and made it clear that untreated water should not be released into the river under any circumstances. He also directed departments to use government funds effectively for long-term environmental solutions.
Industrial pollution was another important topic during the inspection. Concerns related to waste discharge from Andhra Paper Mills were discussed, with Pawan asking officials to speed up alternative treatment arrangements and strengthen safety measures.
More than anything, the visit reflected Pawan Kalyan’s hands-on style of governance. From inspecting facilities personally to questioning officers directly on ground realities, he appeared determined to ensure visible improvement instead of routine administrative formalities.
If these measures are implemented successfully, the next Godavari Pushkaralu could set a new benchmark by combining spirituality with environmental awareness and better infrastructure development across the region.
