Dhurandhar Continues Dominance, Overtakes Avatar: Fire and Ash Opening Day in India

In a surprising box office twist, a Bollywood film has managed to outperform a major Hollywood franchise in India on its fifteenth day no less. Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar continues its phenomenal run, with its Day 15 collections exceeding the opening-day numbers of Avatar: Fire and Ash in the Indian market.

The Ranveer Singh–starrer is showing no signs of slowing down. On its third Friday, Dhurandhar reportedly collected around ₹24–25 crore nett, a remarkable feat at this stage of its theatrical run. In contrast, Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third installment in James Cameron’s blockbuster franchise, managed to earn only about ₹20 crore nett on its opening day in India.

From the outset, Avatar: Fire and Ash has struggled to generate strong buzz among Indian audiences. This is a sharp contrast to the film’s predecessor, Avatar: The Way of Water, which opened to an impressive ₹40 crore nett in India. The third chapter’s opening-day figures indicate a steep drop of nearly 50%, raising concerns about its long-term prospects.

Meanwhile, Dhurandhar continues to dominate the box office, setting new benchmarks with each passing day. With largely positive word of mouth and strong audience pull, the Indian spy action thriller appears well-positioned to maintain its momentum. Given the mixed reviews for Avatar: Fire and Ash and increasing competition from homegrown cinema, the road ahead looks increasingly challenging for the Hollywood spectacle in India.
