After weeks of speculation, Deepika Padukone has finally addressed her departure from two major upcoming films Prabhas’ Spirit and the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD.
Earlier reports suggested that Deepika was replaced in Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, due to her working hour preferences, with Tripti Dimri stepping into the role. Similarly, she was expected to reprise her role in the Kalki 2898 AD sequel, but the makers recently confirmed she would not be part of the project, citing “commitment issues.” After years of collaboration, both sides mutually decided to part ways.
Despite being replaced in two high profile films, Deepika remained silent for some time. In a Thursday interview, she finally spoke about her exit:
“I don’t want to take names or make this a big thing. But it’s widely known that many male actors have been working 8 hours a day for years, Monday to Friday, and they don’t work on weekends. Now, even many women and new mothers have started working 8-hour shifts, but that never makes headlines.”
Reflecting on her career challenges, she added:
“I’ve faced this throughout my career. Even when it comes to pay, I’ve had to deal with whatever comes my way. I’ve always fought my battles silently.”
Deepika also emphasized her approach to handling conflicts with grace:
“Sometimes those battles become public, which isn’t how I was brought up. But I believe in facing them quietly and with dignity.”
On the professional front, Deepika will next reunite with Shah Rukh Khan in King, directed by Siddharth Anand, marking another exciting chapter in her illustrious career.
