Director Nag Ashwin said in August 2019 that his team was putting together a unique plot and script for a while and that it would shortly begin production. Nag Ashwin is well known for the 2018 biographical drama Mahanati.In the following period, Vyjayanthi Productions announced their intention to start production on Ashwin’s movie in September of that year and extended an invitation to writers, designers, and visual artists.
In February 2020, Vyjayanthi Movies made a formal announcement that Prabhas would star in their upcoming project alongside Ashwin.It is meant to commemorate the five decades after the founding of their studio.C. Aswani Dutt, Ashwin’s father-in-law, is the movie’s producer.
Deepika Padukone, a leading actress in Hindi films, was cast opposite Prabhas. In contrast to Ashwin, who said that her portrayal would come as a “surprise” because it was something that “no popular lead had ever undertaken before,” Padukone said how “beyond thrilled” she was to be working on the project. Padukone makes her Telugu cinematic debut with this movie. According to Mumbai’s Bollywood Hungama, this role started out as “hardly strong” but eventually expanded to demonstrate her prominence. Amitabh Bachchan was given a full-length part in the movie in October. According to Ashwin, his part was “certainly vital because his character’s identity was the primary theme for the early version”.Following his earlier cameo roles in Manam (2014) and Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019), the movie would feature Bachchan’s debut complete Telugu part. After Loafer (2015), Disha Patani resurfaced to Telugu film when she officially joined the starring role in the month of May 2022.
It was made public in May 2023 that the actor Kamal Haasan was joining the cast for the Telugu film as the primary antagonist. His participation was formally announced on June 25, 2023, however. Producer Dutt said in the month of July 2022 that the team hoped to bring out the movie either on October 18, 2023, or in January 2024, with the 2024 release date being subsequently finalized.
