Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Release Faces Uncertainty Amid Censor Delay

By TeluguFunda / January 7, 2026

The theatrical release of Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan appears to be in jeopardy due to ongoing censor-related issues. The film has been stuck in the certification process for the past few days, preventing theatre chains across India from opening advance bookings.

In response to the delay, the film’s team approached the Madras High Court, seeking directions to expedite the issuance of the censor certificate. The matter was heard today, and after considering arguments from both sides, the court reserved its order. The verdict is expected to be announced on the morning of January 9.

Even if the ruling favors the makers, the Censor Board may still require additional time to complete the certification process. This could force the makers to postpone the film’s scheduled release, which is currently set for January 9.

Adding to the uncertainty, overseas premiere shows are also likely to be cancelled, as the court’s decision is still pending. As per the latest developments, the Telugu version and other dubbed releases are unlikely to hit screens on the planned date.

For now, fans and industry stakeholders can only wait for further clarity as the situation continues to unfold.
