Sri Ranga Neethulu (2024) Review: The Humor of Everyday Philosophy and its Dilemmas

The existential dilemmas of our lives can be avoided when we give in to the society’s system of values. Sri Ranga Neethulu is a story of three stories. One, about the one who had give in to society’s values of prestige. Two, about the liberal woman stuck in traditional, conservative familial values. Three, about those who had gone to the extremes denying all the ‘reality’ and its social values. Writer and Director, Praveen Kumar VSS, successfully  weaved these different stories with a good sense of humor.

Hyperlink Cinema

Shiva, played by Suhas, plays the role of a small-scale employee in a Samsung store with deep insecurities about his perceived prestige in their ghetto. Aishwarya Gangaraju, played by Ruhani Sharma, as a liberal woman who lives to preach out the morality and motivation but fears to implement them in her family’s conservative life. Karthick, played by C / O Kancherapalem fame Karthik Rathnam, is a failure in life turned into a drug addict.

These are the characters and their story rarely coincide, unlike the popular anthologies like Vedam and Chandamama Kathalu. Sri Ranga Neethulu is a Hyperlink Cinema with the unifying theme of hypocritical morality of our lives. The movie succeeds in deciding so as it makes the viewer focus more on the intended philosophical messaging than the plot itself.

Proverbial Philosophy

Every major character in the movie is flawed at some level. The main idea here is to expose the hypocrisy of their belief system. This is very cleverly done through the proverbial wordplay both in the form of lyrics and dialogues. For example, the uncle says, “I don’t understand whether you self-publicize through hoardings because you have done the social service or do the social service just to publicize it?”

The clever usage of proverbs makes it less preachy. The biggest challenge the writer might have faced while writing the film is to think about how to not make this film less preachy. The sense of humor helps a lot, making the audience feel at ease.

Subtle Music

The music by Ajay Arasada and Harshavardhan Rameshwar doesn’t bore you with the cliched noisy of beats. It stays true to the colloquially filled with proverbs from Telugu. The cinematography by Tijo Tomy doesn’t do either magic or the mediocre. It simply makes you engage with the screenplay, which feels quick as well as humorous.

Finally, the movie  is filled with many moments that can give you a wholesome laugh. Sri Ranga Neethulu is a good watch that can lighten up your mood as well as learn a few lessons on the way too. That is why very few good cinemas exist.

Sri Ranga Neethulu is now streaming on Aha.
