Prathyusha Case : Siddhartha Reddy Surrenders at Nampally Court After SC Verdict

By TeluguFunda / March 17, 2026

Gudipalli Siddhartha Reddy, convicted in the 2002 death of Telugu-Tamil actress Prathyusha, surrendered at Nampally Criminal Court in Hyderabad on March 15, 2026. The move follows the Supreme Court’s February 2026 dismissal of his appeal, upholding his abetment to suicide conviction and ordering surrender within four weeks.

Case Background

On February 23, 2002, Prathyusha and Reddy allegedly consumed pesticide in a suicide pact; she died en route to hospital from poisoning, while he survived. Prathyusha’s mother alleged murder and rape, but courts ruled it suicide with Reddy abetting. The 24-year saga saw initial 5-year sentence reduced to 2 years by Andhra Pradesh High Court in 2011.

Supreme Court Ruling

Justices Rajesh Bindal and Manmohan rejected murder claims, citing overwhelming medical, forensic, and ocular evidence for poisoning death. They dismissed Reddy’s acquittal plea and the mother’s enhancement request, affirming abetment under IPC Section 306. Reddy, returning from the US, complied post-judgment.

Reddy faces 2 years imprisonment plus fines from 2004 conviction. The verdict ends prolonged appeals, ruling out strangulation or assault allegations. Prathyusha’s mother, a school teacher, fought valiantly but saw no sentence hike. This brings finality to the tragic case.
