The much-awaited premiere shows for Peddi are finally set to happen on June 3, as the Andhra Pradesh government has reportedly issued official orders permitting special screenings across the state. However, unlike the expectations of multiple benefit shows, only one special premiere show is likely to be allowed from 8 PM onwards.
In a major boost for exhibitors and distributors, the AP government has also reportedly approved ticket price hikes for ten days. Single screen theatres can increase ticket prices by Rs.100, while multiplexes have been given permission to hike prices by Rs.125 per ticket until June 13.
With Andhra Pradesh giving the green signal, all attention has now shifted to Telangana. Industry circles are eagerly waiting for clarity on whether the Telangana government will also approve similar ticket hikes and special show permissions. Given the recent debates and controversies surrounding ticket pricing, the Telangana government is expected to take a cautious approach before making a final decision.
Fans have already begun planning celebrations for the film’s release, and they are hoping for a positive update from Telangana soon. If revised pricing is not approved there, theatres may have to continue with the existing ticket rates.
Trade analysts are placing huge expectations on Peddi, believing the film could revive the struggling Telugu box office. While dubbed films have managed to pull audiences to theatres in recent weeks, several straight Telugu releases failed to make an impact. The industry now sees Peddi as a crucial release that could bring much-needed momentum back to cinemas.
