Sony LIV has just dropped the teaser for its upcoming Telugu original series, Mayasabha, which will start streaming on August 7, 2025. Directed by Deva Katta, the series has already caught attention for its sharp political storytelling and controversial tone. The teaser introduces viewers to a powerful tale of friendship, betrayal, and political rivalry between two major characters, clearly inspired by real-life political giants, Chandrababu Naidu and Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.
A Fictional Take on Real-Life Politics
Mayasabha fictionalizes Andhra Pradesh’s turbulent political history from the mid-1990s. The story follows two close friends, Kakarla Krishnama Naidu, played by Aadhi Pinisetty, and MS Rami Reddy, portrayed by Chaitanya Rao, who eventually turn into fierce political rivals. Although the creators gave them fictional names, their resemblance to real leaders remains quite evident, and that’s sparking heated discussions.
Teaser Highlights: Heroic Portrayal and Controversial Dialogue
One of the teaser’s most talked-about moments features a bold exchange between the two lead characters. When Reddy questions Naidu’s entry into politics despite coming from a farmer’s family, Naidu fires back, “You were born in a tax-collecting rowdy family. Why politics for you?” The scene ends with both laughing, but many viewers, especially from the Reddy community, found the implication offensive.
Another controversial point is the scene showing Naidu smoking. Although no public record confirms that the real leader smoked, the visual has stirred speculation and concern among audiences and critics. Even though the makers claim the series is fictional, these small creative liberties could cause real-life backlash.
Star Cast, Makers, and Release Date
Besides Aadhi and Chaitanya, the series boasts a strong supporting cast, including Divya Dutta, Sai Kumar, Srikanth Iyengar, Nassar, Ravindra Vijay, Shatru, and Tanya Ravichandran. Sony LIV launched the teaser with the tagline: “A Story of Two Great Friends, Turned into Political Rivals, that became Story of the State.”
Vijay Krishna Lingamaneni and Sree Harsha are producing Mayasabha under Hitmen & Proodos Productions LLP. Kiran Jay Kumar is co-directing the project with Deva Katta.
Deva Katta’s Comeback and Future Projects
Mayasabha marks Deva Katta’s return to political drama after earlier works like Prasthanam. Interestingly, SS Rajamouli has signed him as the dialogue writer for his upcoming film SSMB29 starring Mahesh Babu and possibly Priyanka Chopra. Reports suggest that the story draws inspiration from Lord Hanuman.
