Satya

Comedy favourites Satya and Yogi Babu are set to share the screen in a new entertainer that blends comedy, crime, romance and action. The makers have officially unveiled the film’s title as Golden Bhagyam with a fun-filled promotional video that introduces the film’s quirky world.

GOLDEN BHAGYAM Title Glimpse (Telugu) | Satya | Yogi Babu | Pawan Basamsetti | Dream Movie Makers

Directed by Pawan Basamsetti, known for Rangabali, the film is jointly produced by Nagarjuna Reddy and Pawan Basamsetti under the banners of Dream Movie Makers and Nayavayu Chitralu. The project is being presented as a ‘Telumil’ film, bringing together Telugu and Tamil actors, languages and cultural elements.

The title-reveal video begins with a humorous argument between a Telugu man and a Tamil man over their favourite cuisines before introducing Satya and Yogi Babu. The two comedians appear in traditional white outfits, with an interesting language swap adding to the fun. Satya is seen speaking Tamil, while Yogi Babu delivers his lines in Telugu. The director also hints at a story packed with love, crime and action.

Jayashree and Athiraj play the female leads, while the supporting cast includes Vennela Kishore, Sudharshan, Kishore Tirumala, Rohini, Tanikella Bharani and Sunil Reddy. Bablu Aju handles cinematography, Pawan CH is composing the music, Kamesh is responsible for production design, and Ravi Teja Girijala takes care of editing.

The makers had earlier planned to release Golden Bhagyam during the Sankranthi season but later postponed it beyond the festival window. The film is now scheduled to hit cinemas later this year in both Telugu and Tamil. With Satya and Yogi Babu leading the cast, the film promises a dose of comedy while mixing in crime, romance and action.

Punchline

A fun-filled horror comedy powered by Varun Tej’s energetic performance and Satya’s impeccable comic timing, despite a few logical flaws and a weak climax.

Storyline

Kanakaraju (Varun Tej) is the leader of a traditional folk performance troupe in Penukonda, Rayalaseema. He falls in love with Chaitra (Ritika Nayak), a K-pop enthusiast working at the Kia plant. Just when their love story begins to take shape, Kanakaraju’s life takes a bizarre turn after he gets possessed by the spirit of a Korean man.

As the supernatural chaos unfolds, Kanakaraju, Chaitra, and his close friend Kisttappa set out to uncover the mystery behind the spirit and find a way to free him from its grip. The film combines romance, comedy, and horror while revealing the spirit’s emotional backstory.

Positives

The biggest strength of Korean Kanakaraju is its entertainment factor. Director Merlapaka Gandhi succeeds in delivering a clean family entertainer packed with comedy from start to finish without losing focus on the main storyline.

Varun Tej impresses in both shades of his character, bringing enough variation to make each avatar distinct. His transformation after the possession is convincing and entertaining.

Satya once again proves why he is among Tollywood’s finest comedians. His scenes with Varun Tej are hilarious and consistently produce laugh-out-loud moments throughout the film.

Ritika Nayak performs her role effectively, while supporting actors including Muralidhar Goud, Master Revanth, and the Korean cast add value to the narrative. The screenplay smartly balances comedy with the supernatural elements, ensuring the story never feels stagnant.

Negatives

The film prioritizes entertainment over logic, resulting in several scenes that require viewers to suspend disbelief.

The climax lacks the same energy maintained throughout the film and feels rushed. The visual effects during the final portions are below expectations and reduce the overall impact. A few scenes featuring violence also feel slightly excessive for a film that largely targets family audiences.

Technicalities

Thaman S delivers a decent soundtrack, while his background score effectively enhances the horror and comedy portions. Manojh Reddy’s cinematography stands out, especially during the Korean-themed sequences, which are visually appealing.

Editor Satyaa maintains a crisp pace throughout the film. Director Merlapaka Gandhi deserves appreciation for reviving the horror-comedy genre with entertaining writing, witty one-liners, and several memorable comedy blocks that keep audiences engaged.

Rating

(3/5)

Final Verdict

Korean Kanakaraju is an enjoyable horror-comedy that succeeds mainly because of its consistent humor, entertaining screenplay, and the excellent performances of Varun Tej and Satya. While the film stumbles in the climax with weak CGI and overlooks logic at times, it still delivers enough laughs and fun to make it a worthwhile theatrical watch. If you’re looking for a light-hearted entertainer with a supernatural twist, Korean Kanakaraju is a solid pick.
