In a significant and inspiring victory, Johnny Master’s wife, Sumalatha, has won the Telugu Film Dancers Association election with a notable margin of 29 votes. Of the 510 members, 439 cast their ballots, marking a strong voter turnout.
Sumalatha, who contested independently without the backing of major groups or senior industry figures, emerged victorious with 228 votes. Her main opponent, Joseph Prakash Master, secured 199 votes despite extensive support from well-known dance masters like Shekhar Master, Bhanu Master, Raghu Master, and others. Even actress-dancer Srishti Varma was present at the polling center throughout the day, skipping meals to rally support for Joseph. Another candidate, Chandrasekhar, received 11 votes.
The win is being viewed as a remarkable example of how sincere support from peers can outweigh big endorsements. Sumalatha’s grounded approach and widespread respect among fellow members proved to be her biggest strength.
Meanwhile, Johnny Master—who recently gained attention for choreographing the viral “Chikiri Chikiri” song from Global Star Ram Charan’s upcoming sports drama Peddi—is celebrating a personal milestone as well. Though he initially considered contesting himself, he chose instead to back his wife, a decision that has now delivered a major victory.
Sumalatha’s win has sparked discussions within the association, reinforcing the idea that determination and independence can sometimes triumph over influential alliances.
