In a big step towards transparency in box office reporting, popular Telugu film producer Dil Raju has officially submitted a proposal to the Telugu Film Chamber to bring Rentrak, a reliable box office tracking system, to the Telugu states. This move aims to end the long-standing confusion and manipulation of movie earnings in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Right now, the Telugu industry does not use any verified method to track ticket sales. Many websites and social media pages publish collection figures, but their accuracy remains questionable. Even producers admit they alone know the real numbers. This lack of clarity often sparks public debates, fake promotions, and confusion among fans and the media.
Other countries follow a more reliable process. In the United States, for instance, global tracking systems like Comscore (formerly Rentrak) update box office data hourly. These updates include ticket sales, screen count, and other details. This system helps the audience, media, and industry professionals understand how well a film performs. Inspired by this model, Dil Raju urged officials to implement a similar system in the Telugu states.
At the trailer launch event of his upcoming film Thammudu, Dil Raju said he presented this proposal during a Ministerial Sub-Committee meeting with Telangana Deputy CM Batti Vikramarka. He confidently stated that the system, once approved, will create a clear structure for tracking collections. He believes this step will restore public trust in reported box office numbers.
Dil Raju Targets Fake YouTube Views
Dil Raju also called out the issue of fake YouTube views. He pointed out how teaser and trailer numbers often get inflated through paid promotions. He promised that the Thammudu trailer, which recently launched, will reflect only organic views. This move shows his intention to bring honesty to digital viewership, another area facing widespread criticism.
Answering Backlash with Action
Dil Raju’s proposal also directly responds to the backlash he faced over Ram Charan’s film Game Changer. He admitted that he released certain collection figures under pressure. Now, with this new step, he wants to bring accountability and accuracy to the Telugu film industry.
Thammudu to Hit Screens on July 4
Meanwhile, Thammudu, featuring Nithin and Sapthami Gowda, will hit the screens on July 4. The film also marks the comeback of actress Laya and comes from Venu Sriram, the director of Vakeel Saab.
