Bicchagadu 3: Vijay Antony Confirms He’s Writing and Directing the Next Installment

Tamil actor and music composer Vijay Antony has officially confirmed that he is writing Bicchagadu 3, the next part in the Bicchagadu franchise. He plans to release the film in summer 2027. Vijay started his journey in cinema as a music director and later transformed into a writer, director, and leading actor. Known for his emotional storytelling and strong connection with audiences, he now prepares to take the Bicchagadu story forward in his own way.

While promoting his upcoming film Maargan, which hits theatres tomorrow along with Kannappa, Vijay revealed that he is currently working on the script for Bicchagadu 3. He confirmed that he will both direct and star in the film. He made it clear that even though Maargan and Kannappa are releasing on the same day, he doesn’t view it as competition. He explained that both films target different audiences and offer different experiences.

How Bicchagadu Became a Popular Franchise

The original Bicchagadu (known as Pichaikkaran in Tamil) turned into a massive blockbuster, especially in the Telugu states, where the dubbed version even outperformed the Tamil original. Its powerful emotional storyline, where a wealthy man chooses to live as a beggar for his mother’s recovery, deeply moved the audience.

After this huge success, Vijay directed Bicchagadu 2 himself. Although critics didn’t praise the sequel much, the audience supported it at the box office, which helped him establish it as a successful second installment. The response gave him the confidence to extend the story with Bicchagadu 3.
