Allari Naresh is on a spree to make mark as a serious “actor”. It is quite evident with his recent films like Naandi, Ugram, Itlu Maredumilli Prajaneekam. With Bachhala Malli, he is again quite sincere with his stellar performance as a good-for-nothing arrogant man in a dysfunctional family.
The story of Bachchala Malli dwindles from 1985 and 2005, spanning the most important phases of his life, almost filled with many losses. Malli, the successful topper, becomes wasted after his father decides to be with the mistress. The downfall of Malli begins with his father leaving him. He becomes the typical honest arrogant young ‘hero’ who doesn’t even mind changing his intoxicating habits for a heroine, even though he doesn’t notice her mother.
The major setback of the Bachchala Malli is the over reliance of consistent characterisation and giving up on the core elements of storytelling, depending on the easy-writing. For example, the heroine character is written just as a boy’s fantasy and without a core that lacks the needed essence to make her even acknowledge.
Beyond Allari Naresh the major performances are from Harsh Roshan, Ankith Koyya, Praveen, Hari Teja, Rohini and Rao Ramesh who did their best amplifying the whole mood of the story that lacks the novel essence served to us as old wine in old glass with a new label of fantabulous Allari Naresh.
Bachchala Malli is a decent movie to watch if one doesn’t mind the archaic narrative and seek consistency in characterisation.
