Vishnu Manchu’s highly anticipated mythological film Kannappa is creating buzz across the entertainment industry. Based on Hindu folklore, the story revolves around a powerful devotee of Lord Shiva. The movie has raised expectations with its grand vision and stellar cast. It will feature special appearances by Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggarwal, and Mohanlal. Notably, this marks Akshay Kumar’s Telugu debut, while Kajal Aggarwal will play a guest role.
Why Was Kannappa Postponed?
The movie was initially scheduled for a December 2024 release. However, fans were surprised when the makers announced a delay, pushing the release to April 25, 2025. During a recent event, Vishnu Manchu clarified the reason for this change. He revealed that while many believed the postponement was to avoid a clash with Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, the real reason was the pending VFX and post-production work.
Vishnu explained, “Both Kannappa and Pushpa 2 share the same distributors, but our decision wasn’t about competition. We want to deliver a quality film. Some portions are still being shot in Paris, and the footage won’t be ready until December.” He added that the team initially considered releasing the movie in August 2024, then December, but realized more time was needed.

Avoiding Box Office Clashes
Choosing April 2025 also helps the film steer clear of competition from big-budget releases like Pushpa 2: The Rule and Ram Charan’s Game Changer. The summer release ensures ample time for the team to perfect the movie’s visuals and present a polished product.

Vishnu Manchu is optimistic that Kannappa will mark a turning point in his career. His recent films, including Mosagallu, Ginna, struggled at the box office, and fans hope this project will bring him much-needed success.
