‘Uruku Patela’ is inspired by lockdown-time superstitions I encountered: Tejus Kancherla

‘Uruku Patela’, starring Tejus Kancherla and Khushboo Choudary in the lead, is arriving at the cinemas this Saturday (September 7th). The film is directed by Vivek Reddy. In his latest interview, Tejus talks about the film, which his father Kancherla Bala Bhanu has bankrolled.

“When we pitched the story of ‘Uruku Patela’ to many producers, no one was willing to invest the required budget in me despite their liking the story. From a business standpoint, their stance was justified. Eventually, my father listened to the story, loved it, and agreed to produce the film,” Tejus reveals.

The film’s story is set in Telangana and takes on a horror-comedy turn. “Given my upbringing in Hyderabad, the accent was not a significant challenge,” says the young actor. “While the trailer might suggest a heroine-centric plot, the movie’s story is different. The title ‘Uruku Patela’ is something you will make out once you watch the entertainer,” he adds.

“The heroine (Khushboo) is from Uttarakhand. We discovered her through an Insta reel. After attending workshops, she performed admirably without any issues,” Tejus reveals.

“If ‘Uruku Patela’ is successful, I would be open to producing more projects with promising stories. However, I won’t be combining production and acting roles in the future, as it’s challenging to balance both,” he adds.

“This film is suitable for all ages and offers plenty of laughs. Inspired by the superstitions I encountered during the lockdown, I crafted a story that blends thriller and comedy elements for a complete entertainment experience,” he says.
