Trump’s Approach in the “Danger Zone”: No Nobel, No Obligation for Peace?

Awards and honors are not something one can demand they come naturally to those who deserve them. But U.S. President Donald Trump seems to operate with a completely different mindset. When it comes to the Nobel Peace Prize, Trump’s fixation is unusual and unprecedented. Openly expressing his desire for the award, he has argued that having ended more than eight wars, who could possibly deserve the Nobel Peace Prize more than him? Such statements understandably raise eyebrows.

No other world leader or even previous U.S. presidents has been seen vying so publicly for the Nobel Peace Prize. Yet, in the latest twist, another sensational episode related to Trump has come to light. Known for his ambition to incorporate Greenland into the United States, Trump has been actively pursuing this plan in recent days, creating new tensions within the European Union.

In this context, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre revealed a remarkable detail. He shared a message sent by Trump regarding the Nobel Peace Prize, linking it to the Greenland issue. According to the message, Trump essentially conveyed:

“Since I did not receive the Nobel Prize, I have no obligation to speak about peace. Your country decided that I should not be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, despite ending more than eight wars. Therefore, I am under no responsibility to prioritize peace. My focus is now solely on what is best and right for America. Unless we have full control over Greenland, the world cannot be truly safe.”

Prime Minister Støre also reminded that the Nobel Peace Prize selection is entirely independent of the Norwegian government. While five members of the Nobel Committee are appointed by the Norwegian Parliament, the government has no role in the process.

Trump’s logic claiming no obligation to prioritize peace simply because he did not receive the award raises critical questions. If he had received it, would U.S. interests take precedence over global peace? While ambition is not inherently wrong, pursuing it in such a self-serving manner risks deception and serious global repercussions.

Given the potential danger of such behavior, it is crucial for Americans and the international community to clearly articulate their response to this unprecedented approach.
